Review of Sun Kettle

I live in The Villages in Florida. I have left the Sun Kettle out in full sun for hours when it was in the high 70s to low 80s outside and the water gets warm but it does NOT get hot !

Pat, Sorry to hear you had issues with your Sun Kettle. The Sun Kettle will not reach a rolling boil, but will be hot enough to be sanitized and used as drinking water at about 160 degrees Fahrenheit. It only takes about 20 minutes to sanitize and sterilize your water at this temperature. Please make sure the parabolic mirrors are facing at a 45 degree angle toward direct sun. You can use the kickstand below the unit to achieve this. It can take 45-1 hour to reach optimal temperature. If you are still having trouble with the unit, please send me an email to: with ATTN: Mandy to get this taken care of right away. Best Regards~Mandy

I do not have good sunknow

Make sure you can get good sun. I has not got even warm water through my window. I do not have a good exposure right now. When

Thank you for your review David! We are sorry to know that the Sun Kettle is not working well for you due to no sun. It should still be able to heat water. It will just take longer than usual. Best Regards ~Ashley

Sun Kettle

I love it, because out camping, on a hiking trek, or even in my back yard I can boil water quickly (of course it depends on how much sunlight is available) and without creating any smoke. I had bought one earlier, liked it so much I bought another two. I keep one with my bug out bag just for one of those SHTF scenarios. It's also lightweight and well-built. Bravo Zulu!

Hi David, Thank you for your review on our Sun Kettle Solar Cooker. It's great to hear that you use it when camping and hiking. Thank you for choosing 4Patriots. Best Regards, Kristy B.

Just purchased the three pack

We split this three pack between families. One son lives on the coast of SC and said it will be a great addition to the “hurricane box”. Our daughter lives on a farm and loses power often. She thinks it will be very helpful to her family. We are adding ours to our prep box. Hopefully, we won’t have to use it. Very easy to set up.

We appreciate your awesome review, Laura! We're so happy to hear that you and your family are pleased with the Sun Kettles! Best Regards! ~Kerri

Hot But Not Boiling

In direct sunlight, temp gets to 175-180 after 2 hours at 4500’ elevation. Much less in partly cloudy or overcast conditions. Pamphlet says water is safe after 20 minutes at 150. But everything else I’ve read says to boil for 1 minute. Still waiting for Patriots to point me to an independent article substantiating their claim.

James, thank you for your review and happy to help! If you are using the Sun Kettle to sterilize water, ensure that the water temperature is above 150°F (65°C) for more than 20 minutes. This will kill or inactivate those organisms that can cause harm to humans, such as Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Endameba, the eggs of worms, Vibrio cholerae, Shigella, Salmonella bacteria, those that cause typhoid, the enterotoxigenic strains of E. coli, Hepatitis A and Rotaviruses. As little as five minutes at this temperature will kill 99.99% of waterborne microorganisms. We also have information in our manual as well to review on how to properly sterilize water and can assure what you have been advised is correct! Best Regards~Mandy
