The extended shelf life of your food and its packaging is dependent upon proper storage conditions. Excess heat and/or damage to packaging may decrease shelf life. Storage conditions can impact the shelf life of your food. Your survival food will last longest when in stable, cool temperatures… away from moist air. So for best results, always protect your food from heat, air and moisture. Avoid prolonged exposure to temps above 75 degrees F. And keep your food sealed until you’re ready to eat it. Shelf life will vary based on storage conditions.

How do you get a 25-Year shelf life?

Advanced technology is the secret to the long shelf life of your food. We seal in your food’s freshness and flavor with state-of-the-art freeze-drying technology and with a careful “low-heat dehydration” method. This is a slow and painstaking technique… but it’s worth it because you get incredible taste and nutrition, for a great value.

CONVENIENT POUCHES: Triple-layer Mylar pouches help protect your food. This premium packaging works as a barrier to help protect against things that can harm your food: air, light and moisture.

SPACE-AGE TECHNOLOGY: Then we use a high-tech, high-capacity oxygen absorber to suck OUT any excess air. Which is key to sealing IN your food’s ultra-long shelf life.

PERFECTLY PRESERVED FLAVOR: Last step? The pouch is “cold sealed” to keep it airtight. This method of sealing helps keep shelf-life-damaging heat far away from your food. And we pack your food in a stackable, water-resistant tote for added protection. Keep your food in dry, stable temperatures – away from bright light – and you’ll find that it tastes great when you open it, even if that’s years from now..

How much food do I need?

It’s recommended that most folks start with a 4-Week Survival Food Kit for each person in their family and build their stockpile up from there. That’s a solid start to your food supply and it puts your family in a good position to get through the most common disaster situations.

Keep in mind that caloric needs vary based on your age, gender and physical activity level. Every person’s needs, goals and desires for nutrition and calories is different.

Our kits are intended to provide you with energy and nutrients during stressful emergency situations. They are not intended to be complete caloric replacements during “normal” times. In general, an average adult needs approximately 2,000 calories per day to meet their energy needs.

Every person’s access to supplement with other foods on hand (canned, bulk, refrigerated, frozen, etc.) and their likelihood to supplement by acquiring additional foods (via fishing, hunting, gardening) during an emergency situation is different. For that reason, we recommend that you customize your food plan to meet your unique needs. If you prefer more variety, need more food each day or want to feed multiple people, we offer a number of supplemental products, including food bars, meat packs, fruit and vegetable packs, etc. By combining a 4-Week Kit with these additional products, you can ensure that you have 2,000 calories per day available to you during emergency situations.

We’d be happy to discuss your particular preparedness goals, and to help you select more or less survival food to meet your unique needs. Just call our friendly Customer Service team at 1-800-304-4202. We’re available 24/7 to help.
